Canada- The Land of.. Well Everything I love.

So I know that I have fallen into the typical blog trap of not posting for months. I just have not felt inspired whatsoever in the past few weeks. But that has most definitely changed!
I came up to visit my sister here in Vancouver about 36 hours ago, and already I feel like I have done so much, and that my view of things has completely changed.
The last few times I came here we never got to truly explore the city, mainly because I was under 19 the legal drinking/everything age here in Canada. But now I'm 20 and ready to hit it hard! (Okay just kidding not too hard, I still get tired at 10pm, but kinda hard).

So the first night we went to eat some dive Korean food.  I have never really had real Korean food, but they honestly had me at the Spicy Tofu soup.

Madangcoul Korean Restaurant was at the end of the main street, Robson, kind of off to the side, and since the name wasn't english and the decor was shitty, I was guessing the food would be good. I was mistaken- It was amazing!
We had spicy grilled chicken and beef noodles of some sort and it came with all the nice side dishes. YUM!

The next stop was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my life. My sister decided that we should have my first legal drink in North America at Cloud 9, a restaurant perched on the 42nd floor of The Empire Landmark Hotel. So being 42 stories high already means amazing panoramic views, but being a revolving restaurant means enjoying those amazing panoramic views all across without ever leaving your seat. I won't get into too much detail, but let's just say I felt the mouvement more than I thought I would.

When the waiter asked us what we would like to drink my sister insisted he ID me. Well that's all great but guess what dummie couldn't find her ID. Yep, this one right here! Of course I would finally be able to drink, and my sister would insist on me being ID'd when I wasn't going to be, and I wouldn't be able to find it. After ten minutes of searching, and the waiter assuring us he didn't need to see it, while my sister still kept insisting, I found my ID and was carded in the appropriate manner. Out came our Bellinis and Russian Lemonades, when from the corner of my eye I see the waiter approach us with a cake and candle on it.

"Happy Legally able to drink to you!
Happy Legally able to drink to you!
Happy Legally able to drink to you dear Rebecca!
Happy Legally able to drink to you!"

Sweetest. Waiter. Of. My. Life. Might I add that the cake was absolutely amazing too! It was some sort of a Chocolate Truffle thing that just completed the night perfectly.

Happy Legally Able to Drink To Me!

As we were heading home kind of buzzed and merry, my party animal sister decided it was too early to turn in and that we should go to the bar her friend was working at. It was a bar called LampLighter, which is in the GasTown district, which eerily enough looks just like our Gaslamp District in San Diego.

The crowd there was ultra hip and it seemed to have some serious potential at first. Primarily what impressed me was that the people there weren't wearing the slutty short dresses and sky high heels or the douchie collared shirt, jeans and sneakers combo that we see in San Diego. I saw girls in long floor length summer dresses, guys in cool army jackets, and not a single buttcheek showing. This place was really cool.

We grabbed some tequila shots and Sailor Jerry's then headed for a good time. Too bad my first impression mislead me, and the crowd was in fact douchie despite their appearance. My sisters friend suggested we then move onto The Diamond. Now this place was more my scene. Nice hip mellow music. People just relaxing and talking. A scent that was not reminiscent of sweaty old construction workers like the last place. Honey I'm home!

I honestly could LIVE in this place. Beautiful exposed brick, comfy couches, a gorgeous bar, and an even more gorgeous French bartender. In a drunk effort to seem cool I asked the bartender to fix me his favourite drink, "STRONG!" I said in french. BIG MISTAKE! I'm pretty sure it was Tequila on Ice with some vodka and absinthe or something. Boooooozy! It was already last call so we finished the drinks, stumbled home and passed out watching the Simpsons.

Anyway that was all just the first night. Promise to update more often so check back soon my loves.
So far my favourite thig about Vancouver is that almost everyone looks like Hipsters, but without the pretentiousness usually associated with them. That's to say they bike, wear hip clothes, listen to good bands, but don't sit and gloat about it all day. Perrrrrfection!

I'm off to the Canoucks Game

Ciao my darlings! ;)
